Who This Tool Is For

Serverless developers, platform engineers, and architects picking between DynamoDB and RDS. FinOps teams reconciling spiky NoSQL bills.

Why We Built This Tool

DynamoDB pricing splits across capacity mode, storage, and optional PITR — On-Demand vs provisioned is the first fork with a large cost swing. We quantified both paths with June 2026 us-east-1 rates.

What Problem It Solves

  • Mode comparison. See both pricing models with the same workload inputs.
  • PITR toggle. Add continuous backup cost explicitly.
  • Free tier modeling. Optional subtraction of 25 GB / 25 WCU / 25 RCU.
  • Storage line item. $0.25/GB-month separated from capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do these prices come from?

DynamoDB us-east-1 list prices as of June 2026: On-Demand $1.25/M writes and $0.25/M reads; provisioned $0.00065/WCU-hr and $0.00013/RCU-hr; storage $0.25/GB; PITR $0.20/GB.

Are GSIs included?

No — enter aggregate capacity for your table only. Each global secondary index bills its own reads/writes or WCU/RCU.

What is a read/write unit?

Standard strongly consistent read = 1 RCU for 4 KB; write = 1 WCU for 1 KB. Larger items consume multiple units.

DAX or streams?

DAX cluster hours, DynamoDB Streams read requests, and export to S3 are not included.

When is On-Demand cheaper?

Typically at low or spiky traffic. Steady high QPS often shifts savings to provisioned or auto-scaling policies.
