# AWS Service Lifecycle Updates: June 2026 Maintenance, Sunset, and Migration Guide

> On June 30, 2026 AWS announced maintenance mode for Bedrock Agents Classic, Q Business, Kendra, and 20+ other services — plus sunsets for WorkSpaces PCoIP and end-of-support for Chime SDK Carrier Voice Focus. Migration matrix and decision guide for enterprise teams.

On **June 30, 2026**, AWS published [Service Availability Updates](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/06/aws-service-availability/) — the largest lifecycle batch of the year. **Bedrock Agents** is now **Bedrock Agents Classic**. **Amazon Q Business**, **Amazon Kendra**, and a dozen SageMaker AI features enter **maintenance for new customers** after **July 30, 2026**. WorkSpaces PCoIP and Pool enter **sunset**. Two services reached **end of support** the same day.

**Engagement shape we saw in July 2026:** a B2B SaaS platform (~400 employees) had Kendra in procurement when the announcement landed. Procurement paused the $42K/year Kendra Enterprise quote and rerouted evaluation to Quick Suite — **6-week delay avoided a 3-year commitment** on a maintenance-mode service. The quantified lesson: lifecycle-check AWS services in RFPs the same way you check GA status.

## Services entering maintenance (July 30, 2026 cutoff)

Maintenance means **existing customers continue**; **new customers cannot onboard** after the cutoff. AWS continues operating and supporting the service.

### AI and search — highest impact for GenAI teams

| Service | What changed | FactualMinds recommendation |
| ------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Amazon Bedrock Agents → Agents Classic** | Original Bedrock Agents renamed; maintenance for new customers | **Bedrock AgentCore** + Managed Harness for net-new agents. See [AgentCore production guide](/blog/amazon-bedrock-agentcore-production/). |
| **Amazon Q Business** | No new customers after July 30 | **Amazon Quick Suite** for net-new workforce AI. Existing Q Business → attach indexes to Quick Suite. [Quick Suite consulting](/services/amazon-quick-suite/). |
| **Amazon Kendra** | No new customers after July 30 | **Quick Index** (workforce) or **Bedrock Knowledge Bases** (app-embedded RAG). [Kendra calculator](/tools/amazon-kendra-pricing-calculator/) notes maintenance. |

**Bedrock Agents Classic vs AgentCore:** Agents Classic is the November 2023 orchestration model — action groups, knowledge bases, inline agents. AgentCore is modular runtime infrastructure (Runtime, Memory, Gateway, Identity, Observability) with Managed Harness GA since June 17, 2026. Our first-party TCO benchmark: **50K support sessions/month on AgentCore ≈ $791/month** (platform + model) vs **500 employees on Quick Suite ≈ $3,580/month** — different problems, but both beat custom Kendra + Lambda RAG stacks on ops overhead. Details: [AgentCore vs Quick decision guide](/blog/aws-bedrock-agentcore-vs-amazon-q-enterprise-decision-guide-2026/).

### SageMaker AI features

The following SageMaker capabilities enter maintenance for **new customers** after July 30, 2026:

- A2I (Augmented AI)
- Clarify
- Debugger
- GeoSpatial
- Ground Truth
- Mechanical Turk integration
- **Model Monitor**
- Role Manager
- Studio Lab

**What this means for MLOps:** if you are designing a new production ML pipeline in July 2026, do not anchor drift detection on Model Monitor as the primary control. Existing Model Monitor baselines remain valid for current deployments — see our [SageMaker MLOps playbook](/blog/aws-sagemaker-production-mlops-deployment-playbook-2026/) for the monitoring stage, with a lifecycle caveat. For bias and explainability previously handled by Clarify, plan custom evaluation or open-source tooling aligned with your compliance framework — [EU AI Act on AWS guide](/blog/eu-ai-act-compliance-aws-bedrock-sagemaker/).

### Identity, IoT, and management (lower site impact)

| Service | Cutoff | Note |
| ---------------------------------------- | ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Amazon Cognito Sync | July 30, 2026 | Existing mobile/offline sync apps continue; net-new → AppSync or custom sync |
| AWS Directory Service Simple AD | July 30, 2026 | Net-new → [Managed Microsoft AD](/tools/aws-directory-service-pricing-calculator/) |

## Services entering sunset

Sunset services receive an **end-of-operations date**. Customers must migrate to AWS-recommended alternatives.

| Service | Action |
| --------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Amazon WorkSpaces – PCoIP** | Plan migration to WorkSpaces Streaming Protocol (WSP). See [VDI on AWS guide](/blog/aws-vdi-secure-remote-workforce-workspaces-2026/). |
| **Amazon WorkSpaces Pool** | Evaluate WorkSpaces Personal or AppStream 2.0 |
| **AWS Managed Services (AMS) Advanced** | Evaluate AMS Accelerate or partner MSP — [Managed Services](/services/aws-managed-services/) |
| **AWS re:Post Private** | Migrate community support model per AWS timeline |
| **Amazon SageMaker AI Profiler** | Remove from new pipeline designs; use CloudWatch and open-source profilers |

---

## Services at end of support (June 30, 2026)

These are **no longer available** as of June 30, 2026:

- **Amazon Chime SDK – Carrier Voice Focus** — use Chime SDK Voice or third-party telephony for new healthcare/real-time workloads ([healthcare patterns](/industries/aws-healthcare/))
- **Amazon SageMaker AI – Ground Truth Plus** — use managed labeling workforce alternatives

## Migration decision matrix

| ----------------------------------------------- | -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Enterprise assistant over SharePoint/Confluence | Q Business maintenance | [Amazon Quick Suite](/services/amazon-quick-suite/) |
| Customer-facing support agent in your SaaS | Agents Classic maintenance | [Bedrock AgentCore](/blog/amazon-bedrock-agentcore-production/) |
| Enterprise search index | Kendra maintenance | Quick Index or Bedrock Knowledge Bases |
| ML drift monitoring (greenfield) | Model Monitor maintenance | CloudWatch + custom baselines in [MLOps playbook](/blog/aws-sagemaker-production-mlops-deployment-playbook-2026/) |
| Samba-compatible directory | Simple AD maintenance | Managed Microsoft AD |
| VDI with PCoIP | WorkSpaces sunset | WSP — [VDI guide](/blog/aws-vdi-secure-remote-workforce-workspaces-2026/) |

**Opinionated take:** treat July 30, 2026 as a procurement hard stop for Q Business, Kendra, and Agents Classic in new RFPs — not because existing deployments break, but because AWS has signaled where net-new investment flows (Quick Suite, AgentCore, Managed Knowledge Base).

## What to do this week

1. **Procurement / architecture review:** grep your backlog and RFPs for Kendra, Q Business, Bedrock Agents, Model Monitor, Simple AD — reroute net-new work before July 30.
2. **Existing Q Business tenants:** schedule Quick Suite evaluation; indexes can attach without re-crawling all sources.
3. **Agent builders on Agents Classic:** pilot AgentCore Harness in non-production before the next agent feature ships.
4. **MLOps teams:** audit Model Monitor and Ground Truth dependencies in CI/CD; document alternatives before the maintenance cutoff blocks new environment setup.
5. **Subscribe** to the [AWS Product Lifecycle Page](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/product-lifecycle/) RSS feed.

## FAQ

### When do AWS maintenance-mode services stop accepting new customers?
Per the June 30, 2026 announcement, most services entering maintenance stop accepting new customers on July 30, 2026. AWS IoT Device Defender Detect is the exception — new customers cannot access that feature after August 31, 2026. Existing customers on all listed services can continue using them; AWS will continue operating and supporting them.

### What happens to existing Amazon Q Business deployments after July 30, 2026?
Existing Q Business customers remain supported. AWS recommends migrating to Amazon Quick Suite, which subsumes Q Business capabilities (Quick Index, Quick Research, Quick Flows, Quick Automate, Quick Sight). Existing indexes can attach to Quick Suite. Net-new evaluators blocked from Q Business should start with Quick Suite — see our Quick Suite service page and AgentCore vs Quick decision guide.

### What is Amazon Bedrock Agents Classic and should I still build on it?
On June 30, 2026 AWS renamed the original Amazon Bedrock Agents (launched November 2023) to Amazon Bedrock Agents Classic. It enters maintenance for new customers after July 30, 2026. Net-new agent builds should use Bedrock AgentCore — Runtime, Memory, Gateway, Identity, Observability, and Managed Harness (GA June 17, 2026). Existing Agents Classic deployments continue to operate.

### What should I use instead of Amazon Kendra for enterprise search?
For permission-aware workforce search, evaluate Amazon Quick Suite Quick Index. For application-embedded RAG, use Bedrock Knowledge Bases with OpenSearch Serverless or S3 Vectors. Kendra existing customers remain supported; net-new enterprise search should not start on Kendra after July 30, 2026.

### Which SageMaker AI features are in maintenance mode?
As of June 30, 2026, SageMaker A2I, Clarify, Debugger, GeoSpatial, Ground Truth, Mechanical Turk integration, Model Monitor, Role Manager, and Studio Lab enter maintenance for new customers (July 30 cutoff). SageMaker Profiler enters sunset. Ground Truth Plus reached end of support on June 30, 2026. Check the AWS Product Lifecycle Page for service-specific migration guides before planning new MLOps pipelines.

### What is the difference between maintenance mode and sunset?
Maintenance mode: AWS stops onboarding new customers but continues operating the service for existing users. Sunset: AWS announces an end date for operations and support — customers must migrate to alternatives. End of support: the service is no longer available as of the stated date (e.g., Chime SDK Carrier Voice Focus and SageMaker Ground Truth Plus as of June 30, 2026).
