# Amazon SES AI Agent Skill: What It Sets Up, and Which Email Guide to Read Next (2026)

> On 25 September 2026 AWS published an SES skill for the MCP Server. The example is verify an identity and send a first production email. It does not warm a dedicated IP or pick Essentials versus Pro.

On **25 September 2026** AWS published [AI agent skills](https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/09/aws-messaging-ses-ai-skills-mcp-server/) for End User Messaging and Amazon SES on the AWS MCP Server. The SES example in that announcement is specific: ask the coding agent to verify a sending identity and send your first production email. This is part 5 of [AWS Communication Developer Services](/blog/aws-communication-developer-services-2026/). It is a bridge into the SES posts that already exist. It does not restate them.

The skill text in [agent-toolkit-for-aws](https://github.com/aws/agent-toolkit-for-aws) under `amazon-ses` covers domain identity, DKIM, a custom MAIL FROM so SPF aligns, and DMARC. It is a text skill. It does not lease an IP, pick Essentials versus Pro, or split marketing from transactional.

FactualMinds has no new SES measurement in this post. The numbers below are the ones already sourced in our pricing and warm-up guides.

## What the coding agent will do, and what it will skip

Connect the AWS MCP Server, then add the SES skill. In Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor the announcement says the `aws-core` plugin bundles the server and a curated skill set. In other agents you add the server to the MCP config yourself. CLI **2.35.0** or later can run `aws configure agent-toolkit`.

Then stop. A verified domain is the start of sending, not the sending plan.

| Decision | Read this, not the skill |
| --- | --- |
| Essentials, Pro, or Enterprise | [SES pricing plans](/blog/amazon-ses-pricing-plans-essentials-pro-enterprise-2026/). Pro is **$105** per account per region per month. Enterprise is **$500**. A-la-carte outbound is **$0.10** per 1,000. Plan unit rates start at **$0.16** per 1,000. Switch only when the bundle is cheaper than the features you already need. |
| New dedicated IP | [Dedicated IP warm-up](/blog/amazon-ses-dedicated-ip-warmup-2026/). Standard auto warm-up is **45 days**. The **3 July 2025** AWS sample ramp goes from **1,050** emails on day 1 to **21,000,000** on day 40, for lists in the **40–60%** engagement band. |
| Order mail versus marketing mail | [Ecommerce email on SES](/blog/aws-ses-ecommerce-email-marketing/). Streams stay separate. |
| Leaving SendGrid or another provider | [SendGrid migration](/blog/how-to-migrate-from-sendgrid-to-amazon-ses/). DNS, suppression import, and parallel sending are not a skill prompt. |

**We recommend you let the skill verify the domain, then you run the pricing worksheet before anyone upgrades the plan.** The trade-off is an extra hour against an assistant that will happily turn on Pro because the prompt said "production." Pro at **$105** per region is cheap only when you use what it includes. The pricing post's worked case at 2 million emails a month is about **$1,793** a-la-carte for a Pro-like stack versus about **$553** on the Pro plan. That comparison is for people who need the stack. Bare send gets more expensive on a plan.

## Email is the receipt

The customer-facing agent in this series lives on [RCS](/blog/aws-end-user-messaging-rcs-guide-2026/), [SMS](/blog/aws-end-user-messaging-sms-guide-2026/), or [WhatsApp](/blog/aws-end-user-messaging-whatsapp-guide-2026/). Those are the threads where a person can answer. SES is where the receipt, the policy, and the long answer go, after the thread has done its job.

> **What broke** — Treating "send a first production email" as permission to move a campaign. The skill's success condition is a verified identity and a message that left the account. Mailbox providers still have no history on a new IP. Full volume on day one is the failure the warm-up guide is about: throttling, the junk folder, or a block. The 3 July 2025 AWS guide also flags hard bounces from stale addresses. Hold the ramp. The skill will not.

Do not point the support agent at SES for "where is my order" if that question arrived on a phone channel. You will answer in a mailbox the customer is not watching. Use SES to send the receipt and the tracking page. Keep the conversational reply on the channel that received the question.

The approval rule does not relax because the message is email. The agent may confirm status. A refund, an address change, or a price change stays a proposal a person approves. That is the same line as [human-in-the-loop approvals](/blog/human-in-the-loop-ai-agents-ecommerce-2026/).

> **List-price arithmetic, not a client bill** — There is no new SES total in this post. Use the pricing-plan worksheet for the plan decision and the warm-up planner for the IP. The CDS [channel planner](https://www.factualminds.com/examples/architecture-blog-2026/aws-cds-channel-planner/channel-planner.csv) only records that the receipt row is `ses`.

## What to do this week

1. Install the SES skill only if the receipt row in the channel planner is `ses`.
2. Let it verify the domain. Read the DNS records before you publish them.
3. Open the pricing plans post and decide a-la-carte versus Pro before the assistant changes the account.
4. If the IP is new, open the warm-up planner and put only engaged recipients on day 1.
5. If you are mid-migration, stay in the SendGrid guide until suppression import is done.

> **Reproduce this** — The SES skill is `amazon-ses` in the Agent Toolkit repo. The worksheets that actually change the bill are the ones linked from the pricing and warm-up posts, plus the `receipt` row in the [channel planner](https://www.factualminds.com/examples/architecture-blog-2026/aws-cds-channel-planner/README.md).

## What this post doesn't cover

BIMI, tenants, global endpoints, and cold-email compliance. Those already have their own posts. Rebuilding them here would hide the only new fact, which is the 25 September 2026 skill. We are not publishing a new inbox-placement test.

## FAQ

### What does the Amazon SES agent skill do?

The 25 September 2026 announcement says you can ask a coding agent to verify a sending identity and send a first production email. The skill published in the Agent Toolkit covers domain identity, DKIM, a custom MAIL FROM for SPF alignment, and DMARC. It does not choose a pricing plan or warm a dedicated IP.

### When should I not use email for the support agent?

When the customer asked a question in RCS, SMS, or WhatsApp and is waiting in that thread. Email is the receipt and the long answer. A second channel for the same question splits the history and trains the customer to ignore one of them.

### Does the skill replace the SES pricing decision?

No. On 21 July 2026 SES plans landed at $105 a month per account per region for Pro and $500 for Enterprise. Bare send is still $0.10 per 1,000 emails a-la-carte, and plan unit rates start higher. Read the pricing plans guide before you let an assistant upgrade the account.

### What goes wrong if I send full volume the day the identity verifies?

Verification is not reputation. A new dedicated IP still has a warm-up clock. Standard dedicated IPs follow a 45-day percentage. The July 2025 AWS ramp runs from 1,050 emails on day 1 to 21 million on day 40, and only in the 40 to 60 percent engagement band. The skill will not enforce that ramp.

### Can the SES skill send a refund?

No. The skill sets up mail. A customer-facing agent that sends mail may confirm an order status. Refunds, address changes, and price changes stay a proposal a person approves.
